Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sinan Mehmet TURP – Curriculum Vitae

Sinan Mehmet TURP was born on November 26, 1978, in Mersin, Türkiye. He completed his primary education at Barbaros Primary School and graduated from Mersin Private Toros College in 1996, where he received an education supported by both English and German.

In the same year, he was admitted to the Environmental Engineering Department at Sakarya University and graduated with a bachelor's degree in 2000. In 2002, he began his M.Sc. studies in the Department of Environmental Engineering at Sakarya University’s Graduate School of Natural and Applied Sciences and simultaneously started working as a Research Assistant. He successfully completed his thesis titled "Recovery of Boron-Containing Wastewater Using Perlite" in 2004.

That same year, he started his Ph.D. in the Hydraulic Division of the Civil Engineering Department but continued in the Environmental Engineering Department once the doctoral program was opened there. He received his Ph.D. degree in 2012 with a dissertation focusing on the removal of environmental pollutants. In the same year, he completed his compulsory military service at the Istanbul Naval Shipyard Command, where he served as a Lieutenant and Naval Engineering Officer. During this period, he worked in coordination with technical units, applying his engineering expertise within a military infrastructure.

Throughout his academic career, Dr. TURP has actively participated in various scientific and technical service projects, including wastewater treatment, drinking water analysis, and air pollution monitoring. He has also contributed significantly to the department’s quality assurance and accreditation processes.

In 2014, he was appointed as an Assistant Professor in the Environmental Engineering Department at Bitlis Eren University, Faculty of Engineering and Architecture. Since 2020, he has been serving at Tatvan Vocational School under the Department of Chemistry and Chemical Processing Technologies, particularly within the Laboratory Technology and Chemical Technology programs.

In 2022, he was awarded the academic title of Associate Professor in the field of Environmental Engineering.

His main research interests include:

• Biofuel production, especially through waste oil and lignocellulosic biomass sources,

• Characterization and agricultural utilization of biomass ash (bioash),

• Removal of heavy metals using natural and modified adsorbents,

• Phosphorus recovery and circular economy strategies,

• Environmental modeling, including artificial neural networks (ANNs),

• Drinking water and wastewater treatment technologies,

• Environmental awareness and education for sustainable development.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. TURP has authored several national and international publications, coordinated and contributed to TÜBİTAK-funded and EU-supported research projects, and actively participated in organizing academic conferences.
