Dr Kadir Çalışkan works as a Research Assistant in the Faculty of Sport Sciences. His research interests focus on the intersection of sustainable development, specifically in the field of sports management and sustainability. He completed his PhD at Anadolu University (TUR) as a TÜBİTAK scholar with a dissertation titled "The sustainability journey of universities: the evaluation of campuses and sports areas from administrator and student perspectives." This dissertation was awarded second place in 2023 by the Çevre Vakfı in the competition for the best doctoral dissertation on the topic of environment. During the 2024-2025 academic year, he completed a one-year postdoctoral specialisation at Bournemouth University (UK), where he finalised his expertise with a thesis on "Biomimicry in sport". He continues his research on the promotion of sustainability in sports on university campuses, the application of social sustainability through sports in local authorities, the economic and environmental impacts of sports clubs and events, and digital sustainability practices in universities. He also supervises undergraduate students and leads various projects aimed at raising sustainability awareness.

Outside academia, he has participated in numerous national and international marathon and half-marathon events, as well as twice in open-water swimming competitions across the Dardanelles Strait. He enjoys following popular science channels on social media and has a special fondness for cats.
